Who decides what our boundaries are and which lines we need to stay inside of? What sparked the artist in me was the realization that you get to decide. Giving up the decision-making process to anyone but yourself is lazy...and safe. I paint because I would rather take great risks (with the possibility of making great mistakes) than live my life avoiding creative exploration.
It is rare that my paintings begin and end in a linear manner. They are completely unpredictable, though eminently logical. My most recent works are strategically layered compilations. The original painting may be buried, with only a glimpse of where it all began, or it could be lurking just beneath the surface—a reveal that intrigues. The more you look, the more you’ll see.
